Seet belt law in US crazy. No law en Mexico. Use blanket and cover ninos in back. Getting monies from family can be hard. Do not give up.

I don't ask for gas money from friends unless it's significant driving, like at least a couple hours of driving out of town. I don't want to be thought of as a penny pincher. But, yes, in reality, that cost can add up. It's always courteous for the passenger to offer gas money- I always do when I'm riding with someone and we're driving more than 30 miles or so.

The best bet to save gas money is minimize your driving and combine your errands in one swoop. My Ford Escort at 31 MPG average cost me $1,200 in gas last year (all of 2007). Buying a motorcycle (up to 80 MPG or higher) is another option of highly reducing the gas costs.

Your frugal money tips have been a true inspiration to me. You should publish a book or video. The one tip I didn't see was charging your freinds and relatives for gas money on even the shortest of trips. It is only fair that they should share the burden in these times of ever increasing gasonline prices.
For example, a trip to the corner store could cost as much as $2 in gas. If you charge your friends for the ride the per person cost goes well under a dollar!!! Perhaps you can share some of your experiences in splitting gasoline costs. I look forward to your response!

your frugal friend,
